Question ID: 706361
what does "c:\............\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\GOC145RK\poster.pdf is not a valid Win32
application" mean? It seems to be stopping Adobe opening pdf files.
Thanks

marcuso...

This sounds like you're clicking on a link in a web page and getting
an error message when the Adobe browser helper object tries to open
the file from its expected location in Temporary Internet Files.

This can happen when the PDF file is no longer available on the
web site. You can check if this is the case by r-clicking the
same link and choosing "Save Target As". If you get an error
message saying the file can't be found, that confirms the
problem.

Let me know where this takes you...

Thanks for the suggestion but the problem happens when I try to open
an attachment to an email which is a .pdf file.

I did delete everything I could find saying adobe on my computer and
redownloaded but the problem remained. I have also tried to find this
file to delete it but .... no luck with Explorer (nothing ending in
'poster.pdf'). I did find other '.IE5' files which I deleted! Still
no joy. What next??

Ohhh...thanks for clarifying. When you receive an email, the
attachments, including PDF files, are often store in the
Temporary Internet Files folder. When you clear your cache
in Internet Explorer, dialog box gives you the option to
"Delete all offline content". This includes things like
email attachments. If you did this, you may have deleted
the email attachment so that the file is no longer there
to be opened.

If you're using Outlook Express, when you click on the
paperclip for the attachment, you should be given the
option to either open or save the attachment. If opening
isn't working, try saving it to a directory of your
choice. Then go to that directory in Windows Explorer
and click on it to open it.

Let me know where this takes you...

P.S. If that doesn't work, you might try downloading the latest
version of Adobe Reader, uninstalling the old version and then
installing the new version fresh, rather than installing over
the old version. That should reestablish all the associations.
