I have a 3G 10GB almost 4 years old iPod. It currently shuts down
whenever it wants, even though I charge it for 30 hours. Therefore I
am thinking about buying a new battery. I am currently situated in
Czech Republic, Prague. I have searched E-bay and ilounge.com to find
information on where to buy the cheapest and best battery-replacement,
but it is difficult. I do not want to use apples service because it is
expensive and I do not want to give them more money. And my ipod is
almost 4 years old. So I am searching for:
1. Which thrusted stores to buy cheap batteries and send to Prague
2. Is there any fees/taxes on importing iPod-battery
3. Which battery are ok to buy from for instance ebay?
All other comments also appreciated. This is the first time I try this
service, but I hope not the last. |

Hi, thanks for fast reply.
I went to the webpage - tried to put an order, but I only get a Fatal Error:
Miva Merchant has encountered a fatal error and is unable to continue.
The following information may assist you in determining the cause of
the error:
Error Code: MER-DTB-00072
Description: Product 'IPOD-PLATINUM-BATTERY-PROGRAM' not found
(../../common/oui_system.mvi:39)
Anyway I am not interested in a lifetimereplacementprogram. I will
only have my ipod for 1-2 years more (one more battery). I want a
cheap and trusted place where I can buy the battery. I hope this
clarify my question - if not, please feel free to ask more questions.

I have already looked at the following sites:
http://www.ipodjuice.com
http://www.digitalwebtronics.co.uk/
http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/review_grades/C151/
http://store.fastmac.com/advanced_search_result.php?&keywords=truepower

I would suggest you consider two options first
1) getting an external adaptor (either using battery or network adaptor)
2) checking local store first
Please look at store
http://www.alzasoft.cz
and enter [Ipod battery] into a search box = Vyhledavaní
to check products like
http://www.alzasoft.cz/d51458/apple-ipod-shuffle-external-battery-pack-rozsireni-pro-ipod-shuffle-na-2-aa-baterie.htm
If that does not work, please do post an RFC and explain
what you do not like on sites you listed in

You may want to check this
http://www.digg.com/deals/Costco_Now_Selling_Replacement_Batteries_for_Ipods
I mean for the chat. It looks like product itself is gone ..
For the instructions (howto replace) and three sources, please see :

I`m sorry, but this is the first time I use this service - and
therefore the price for this questions is perhaps priced to low? I am
looking for:
1. Internal battery which I can buy and replace myself, the time of
delivery does not matter. Do _not_ want external battery package.
2. Where to buy it (internet shop or ebay?) for the cheapest price.
- For instance this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/IPOD-3RD-GENERATION-3G-BATTERY-INCLUDING-INSTRUCTIONS_W0QQitemZ5879699779QQcategoryZ48680QQcmdZViewItem
? is good enough - or buy from a store
http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=6943&Item=NWTIPOD8503
The price is: E-bay: 9 GBP = 15.53 USD and Store: 51.50 USD Both
included shipping. It seems they are similar products, and the firm at
e-bay seems legitimate. But I am afraid the e-bay version will destroy
my ipod or not last as long. Sorry once again for not clarifying my
answer.
http://www.ipodjuice.com : 34 + $10.00 = 44 USD
http://www.digitalwebtronics.co.uk/ : 51.50 USD
http://store.fastmac.com/advanced_search_result.php?&keywords=truepower
: 29.95 + shipping
Fastmac-store: This is said in their FAQ:
Do you ship your products internationally?
Yes. However, to combat credit card fraud, there are a few additional
steps that need to be taken. After completing your order online for a
product to be shipped to any country other than the United States or
Canada, you need to fax us a copy of a photo ID, driver's license,
passport, etc. and a copy of the front and back of your credit card
with the signature clearly visible. We also need the customer service
phone number of the credit-card issuer. Our FAX number is:
408.727.7978
This seems abit strange - as this is the only company demanding this.
It seems very risky to send this information to complete strangers -
and I wonder why this is necessary on this site - and not the others.
It seems like: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BIPOD850M3/
is the most recommended from users around the internet and forums, but
it is also the most expencive (51.50USD). So I wondered if there is
any difference between buying the cheapest or the most expensive
alternativ I have found, and if there where other places I havent
found.

Relax: We make special effort to accomodate new customers
A reasonable price depends on what you really want. But within reason,
responsivness is often more important than price.
To find the 'absolutely cheapest' would take an infinite effort - so
(if you figure an average of $20/hour) - that would be too low.
The suggestion of external battery was triggered by:
"All other comments also appreciated" We will forget it.
I gave you links to 'how to 'do it yourself' with suggested sources.
Was this useful?
Does Alazasoft has it?
You would save in shipment and insurance. Here are other local shops.
http://zbozi.seznam.cz/zbozi.py/searchScreen?q=Ipod+baterie
If you email them in English, they will respond in English.
The prices you found -- $32 - $49 -- are good ones as seen here
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=Ipod+battery&hl=en&btnG=Search+Froogle
There is no problem buying on Ebay, either the US or the German one
(easier shipping for the latter) and I definely would use PayPal for
that, not a credit card. I would not use the paranoid company you
mentioned.
There is obviously no guarantee that a particular ebay seller will be honest,
but most are, and there is some guarantee from ebay.
http://www.ebay.ph/helpIndex?page=helpWhySafe
Quite frankly, it is not clear which of the following you are asking for:
1)Price comparison
2)How to have things shipped to Prague
3)How to pay
4)Where to shop
In summary, try local sources first, then nearby ones (Austria, Germany),
onlu then US. Please explain what you want.
We sell only information, not anti-anxiety remedies and guarantees, here.
But we will help if you give us a decent chance. So, feel free to do another
RFC.

P.S. When they say 'shipping included' - that usually means
'shipping WITHIN that country'. So ask beforehand about shipping
AND insurance TO PRAGUE, before you buy.
Battery from ebay.uk is very cheap - and of course - no one can guarantee
it will not explode and destroy the city, but considering the rating
Seller: digitalwebtronics ( 105268)
Feedback: 96.8% Positive, since 2004
It is very unlikely (particularly with a large city, like Prague :)
Also, checking the battery in a month or so, will detect eventual leaks.
So, check the shipping, compare the total with price in a local store,
and go ahead.
Please do rate our answer, if there is no other RFC.
