Question ID: 706799
I am looking for information on one particular procedure call TLIF.

TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar interbody fusion) is one kind of Lumbar
spinal fusion. I have several sources that say the number of lumbar
spinal fusion is in the range of 150,000-250,000. However, there is
different kind of lumbar spinal fusion procedures, (e.g. TLIF, PLIF,
ALIF etc). I would like to know what is the market share for different
lumbar spinal fusion procedures, their number of procedures and their
growth rate.

Unfortunately the market research I've found so far comes at a steep
premium (though not nearly as much you pay for a surgical kit--eek). A
teaser I found: http://mrg.net/TOC_BR/BR_USMISP04.pdf

does state that: "In 2003, the US MIS spinal fusion market was valued
at over $100 million. Improved clinical outcomes and the continued
emergence of new MIS spinal fusion technologies will drive this
market, growing to over $400 million by
2008."

From http://www.back.com/articles-evolution.html:
"Approximately 400,000 lower back operations are performed annually in
the United States. " (Note: not all of these are fusions)

From a news site: "The worldwide spinal market continues to be the
fastest growing and most profitable segment of orthopedics with sales
expected to exceed $2.2 billion in 2003, more than a 20% gain."

From http://www.devicelink.com/mx/issuesupdate/05/02/Spinal_Disk.html:
"...200,000 spinal fusion surgeries performed each year in the United States..."
"The firm projects that spinal care will post annual average gains of
19% over the next five years, becoming a $5 billion market by
2008...."

Unfortunately I was unable to find free market information concerning
the percentage of the procedures.
