Many people are admitted to the hospital for either elective surgery
or urgent treatment for an illness and begin to experience alcohol
withdrawl symptoms after several days or even a shorter period of
time. Convential medical care includes providing supportive drug
therapy to minimize the effects of the alcohol withdrawl and prevent
serious complications.

Is there a hospital that allows patients to continue maintainance
drinking by consuming one or two supervised drinks of alcohol per day?
This is what would be helpful to me:
published articles on the efficacy of this treatment,
specific protocols from specific hospitals,
names of persons who have been quoted about this therapy at their hospital
I do not need information about alcohol withdrawl and its management
in hospitalized patients because I already know about that subject.
This might be referred to as alcohol continuation. Thanks very much.
P.S. I haven't used this service before and I'm giving it a try.

Hello hospitallady-ga,

Are you asking us to locate a hospital where you may get alcohol while
you're under treatment? Where are you? What are your geographic
limits? Thanks.

My Mom had this come up once. Jokingly --she told the Doctor she felt
she would die if she didn't get a beer soon, and the Doctor wrote a
prescription for a Rainier Beer. She opted to keep the prescription
and forego the beer. No kidding, she still has the 'prescription' in a
frame on her living room wall.

Our hospital pharmacy stocks beer and liquor for patients who don't
choose to be "treated" for their alcoholism while they're in for
something else.
