Hi!

I wasn't able to find any reports of recall but I did find some forum
postings about complaints as regards to overheating for this model.

Would that be ok with you?

Thanks.

Sorry no, I am able to gather this info myself. I am specifically
looking for some sort of ownership fom Compaq that this is a known
problem.

Basically specific evidenece that this is a documented problem and not
just ramblings from forums.

Let me know if you can help.

Thanks

A number of Compaq Presario models did get recalled due to
overheating, as you can see here:

CPSC, Hewlett-Packard Company Announce Recall of Notebook Computer Batteries

The 700 is not on the list. Still, you may want to check your battery
specs to see if it matches those on the recall notice.

Let me know if that helps out at all.

Just to let you know there are official documented recalls or written
admission of the problems. I can tell you from my experience. Yes,
the laptop overheats and shuts down. Eventually, it cannot remain on
more than 40min without this happening. The PCMCIA slot does not work
properly, pretty much a wasted feature to provide it doesn't work
after 6months of use. I sent mine in last year for repair because
luckily I had an extended warranty. To my surprise, the tech person
was well aware of my problems/issues and pretty much told me what was
going on/wrong with my laptop.

Hope this helps
