Maher is a sum of money agreed to in a Muslim wedding contract. In case of divorce the man gives this to the woman. If the wedding was done in Canada have there been any cases that recognize this amount to be paid to the woman in addition to the splitting of the assets as per standard canadian family law? |

Here is something to start with. Apparently in Ontario, a couple can define that they are marrying under Sharia law: http://www.ccmw.com/MuslimFamilyLaw/submission%20made%20to%20Ms%20Marion%20Boyd.htm |
