What do the letters and numbers signify in an automobile VIN number?
Will they reveal whether a saftey package is installed (e.g. side

I find this information?

tomred-ga,

The answer is probably Yes, though it depends on the manufacturer.

The VIN includes 4 digits that can be (and usually are) used by
manufacturers as equipment codes. Each company defines the digits as
they see fit, so it's not as standardized as some other aspects of the
VIN.

Tell us what company you have in mind, and we can probably provide
more specifics.

VIN number codes vary for each automobile manufacturer / model. The
following web site has links to VIN decoders for a lot of cars that
will identify what features, engine, transmission the car came with
along with where and when it was manufactured.
