Are there any high schools operating in this country that award a
bachelor's degree along with their diploma? I have a research
interest in high schools for the gifted, and I am aware of several
schools recently created that award an associate's degree with the
high school diploma, but I seem to remember reading about a high
school that awards a B.A. (or something similar) to all its graduates.
If I recall correctly, this school does this not out of some recent
innovation, but out of long-standing tradition. I know I read about
it on the web someplace, but I have Googled in vain and cannot find
any reference to it.

Greetings,
The associate degree you mention may be the International Baccalaureate.
There may be some confusion with the word "baccalaureate" as it is
another term for a bachelor's degree in English-speaking countries,
but in other countries sometimes used for the completion of secondary
schooling. This destinction can get lost in translation. Also, there
may be an old school with the tradition of calling its high school
diploma a baccalaureate.

If you search with: define:baccalaureate (note the semicolon without spaces)
you will get definitions of the word (useful Google feature!)

click on European and international Baccalaureate at the top

On this site you will find information about an American high school
that awards the International Baccalaureate. On the right, you can
click on the courses and at the bottom on a link to the Intl.
Baccalaureate Organization, where you search for schools that offer
the program.

You may have seen on the web this and other sites about Boston?s
?English High?, which offers Advanced Placement (?AP?) courses, which
allow a high school student to take college level courses that will be
accepted for course credit in college.

This is mentioned on the following site. The first sentence - taken
out of the context of the university website - could be misunderstood
to suggest that a high school student could earn a BA.

This may not be an answer to your question, but perhaps the IBO
information is some help for your research for better schools.

This is a free comment, not an "answer".

I hope this helps a bit.

I have been in high school education and college admission for a long
time. No high school, to my knowledge, confers the Bachelor of Arts
degree. You may look into Simon's Rock College of Bard, which is an
accredited college for younger learners, usually high school aged.

Please know that there are challenging programs, such as the
International Baccalaureate, that can be interesting and engaging to
bright students. Also, most colleges, especially selective private
liberal arts colleges, want bright students who are ready. A high
school diploma is rarely a requirement for admission. Federal
financial aid requirements mandate a GED, diploma, or a passing score
on a "ability to benefit" test.

Good luck!
