I am looking for a CMS expert to give me a little advice. (I know
mambo/joomla right now fairly well but they don't do what I need
yet...).
I have a problem: I run many websites. I usually install a CMS on each
one. However updating them gets very tedious after a while b/c I have
to login to each and change each separate website...as you can imagine
the problem grows everytime I add a new domain to my portfolio.
I am looking for someone to tell me which CMS out there has this
functionality: Install the CMS once (on a central domain I'd imagine)
and manage multiple domains from one central admin panel. Yes, one
install one time on a central domain and then I can manage the content
for each individual domain from this master control panel. So far this
has eluded me.
It comes down to this: I want to login once, upload content once, and
then send it to whichever domains I want it to appear on (eg content
item1 is appear on site1, site3, site8- and within this single login
change the look and feel of the different sites around
too)...relogging in to different domains, customizing each one, and
adding similar content items to each domain is driving me nuts...
Open source solutions are welcome as are very affordable ones. I know
this is out there somewhere...I looked into Drupal above but I don't
think it does what I'm talking about above.

Let me add some more specifics. All my sites are content sites (eg no
intranet or anything like that) that visitors come to.
I have content developed for the sites by 3rd parties (articles, nifty
greeting cards, pictures, pdfs etc)...the content is expensive to
produce. As a result I want to reuse some (probably most) content
items several times among several sites that have different layouts
(banners, intro text etc.) with different combinations of the same
greeting cards, pictures, etc. Some content items will appear only on
1 site, others on multiple. Some sites will be sparse, others will be
densely packed with cool content items.
I just want to manage all of this "stuff" from one place and be able
to have my service providers login and upload their work at one place
(domain) to minimize both the organization of my company (keeping
track who uploaded what) and the quick deployment of the new content
(which I will do myself as superadmin).
That should clear it up as to what I'm after.
