ekay-ga,

According to the IRS's Statistics of Income bureau, there were close
to 200,000 tax returns reporting a million dollars or more in 2003
(the most recent year available):

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-soi/03in11si.xls
Table 1.1--2003, Individual Income Tax Returns, Selected Income and
Tax Items, by Size and Accumulated Size of Adjusted Gross Income

From the table, we can see the number of earners in the over-a-million categories:

$1,000,000 under $1,500,000	.......... 81,695

$1,500,000 under $2,000,000	.......... 34,017

$2,000,000 under $5,000,000	.......... 48,278

$5,000,000 under $10,000,000	.......... 11,168

$10,000,000 or more .......... 6,126

and adding them up, we get:

81,695 + 34,017 + 48,278 + 11,168 + 6,126 =

181,284 taxpayers who (singly or jointly) reported incomes of a
million dollars or more in 2003.

I trust that's the number you're looking for. But if there's anything
else you need, just let me know by posting a request for
clarification, and I'm at your service.

Cheers,
