In January or February of 2006 I read about the experimental use of
capsaicin in human spinal epidurals .

The article indicated that it involved a small group but produced some
amazing results. Further, the capsaicin epidural seemed specific in
blocking acute pain transmission for up to 6 to 8 months, as the
nerves regrow, but did not affect nerves carrying other signals.

I would like to find the source medical or scientific reports on these studies.

Hi Arfie,

I've found several articles, but none are dated in 2006. Could you
give me a few more clues about this articlw? Was it for back pain or
bladder pain? Do you remember where the study was performed, as to a
university perhaps?

   Thank you!

   Regards, Crabcakes

Crabcakes, I'm sorry I did not see your request for clarification.

I thought that I had read about this development in the newpapers. I
only read the WSJ, NY Times and US Today, but I could be wrong as I
also read a number of science journals. I recall that the procedure
was carrided out with the patient under general anesthesia because
there is initially an enormous amount of pain. The procedure does not
have to be repeated more often than once every 8 months, and I think
that the tests were carried out in Boston.

Where could I get these details? Was I dreaming?

I cannot attest to the fact that the tests were carried out in 2006.
I can only tell you that I read about it in January or February, 2006.

The procedure was being developed for the treatment of chronic ande
acute pain from the lower extremeties, which could be caused by
something wrong in the lower back. The aqctual message I got from
what I read was to the effect that this technique blocked this kind of
pain transmission to the brain. Remember, this was performed on
humans, not animals and it was capsacian or some substance related to
capsacian.
