I haven't found one printer that stands out more than others. However,
I have located several companies that make these printers. How many
companies would suffice as an answer to your question?

I guess three to five printer companies would be great. That way I
could compare prices and features better. Not sure how many are out
there but at this point even 2 or three would be of great help.

Hi batman99,

"Pad printing is an ink based printing process that can be used to
personalise almost any substrate material and virtually any shape of
product. It is without doubt one of the most versatile printing
processes available, and despite the common misconception, is a very
straight forward concept to master."

Heat Transfer - The 'Do it at home' way

Its the same way you get images on Mugs.
You print onto a special paper (Its a LASER ONLY paper) much like a giant sticker.
After the logo has been printed onto the paper, you peel the sticker
off and adhese it to the side of the golf ball.
The golfball then needs to be baked (For mugs its around 300 Degress
Celcuis, Id say it would be the same for Golfballs)

After it has come out your image will be PERMANTLY attached to the
side of the golfball.

To answer your question, the only type of printer you will need is a
Colour Laser (Assuming you want colour, otherwise a mono laser will
do)
The hardest part is finding the paper, this can be bought online at
different craft stores/sites.

Ive got a HP 2600L.

That won't be so good for the golf balls, baking them at 300°C.
