Question ID: 708075
Where can we find maps (ideally online maps) which show parts of the
South East of England affected by noise from aircraft flights for
London (UK) airports, and which relate them to land map features such
as towns and roads?

We want to overlay maps for noisy flights for London (UK) airports on
to an ordinary map. The reason for this is we're looking to move
house, and want to avoid areas which are in a noisy flightpath. We've
got a good map, showing 3 miles to the inch. However, we can't find
suitable flight path information to overlay onto our map. This make is
difficult for us to identify areas which are likely to have noisy
aircraft flying overhead - and so are ones we need to avoid. The
relevant airports are Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted. We're
interested in maps covering a radius of around 50 miles around London.

Hello, and thanks for these links. These were interesting and are a
good step in the right direction.

However, the referenced noise countour maps aren't sufficiently
sensitive for our needs. The maps seem to cover "really really noisy",
rather than the "annoyingly noisy" we're hoping to avoid. We already
live in an annoyingly noisy flight path, and our area is a long way
from the contour map coverage.

The most useful piece of information was the flight paths map on page 11 of:

http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_aviation/documents/page/dft_aviation_039674.pdf

This worked well as it showed simple flight paths for Gatwick and
overlaid them directly onto towns. If this map had covered a wider
geography, it would have covered things off for Gatwick.

So what would probably do it for us is a set of similar maps showing
the flight paths aircraft take to and from the various airports
mentioned. We need to cover a 50 mile radius around London.

Thanks.
