Would you be able to find out approximately how many 50+ Active Adult
retirement communities there are in NJ?  Can you break them up by
North/Central/Southern?  Can you also find out the approx # of units
in each com?  To clarify; I am looking for existing communities that
are built by homebuilders (Toll Brothers, K Hovnanian, Centex, ect...)
NOT assisted living com (i.e. Sunrise Assisted living).

Hello, scal5-ga,

 I am happy to look into this for you in more depth, but upon a
preliminary search, I can already see a few problems which need your
clarification.

 1. It will be nearly impossible to find the number of houses within
each community unless it is posted on the retirement community
website. Aside from calling each community (which would clearly fall
outside of the scope of this question), would you be willing to settle
for the listing without the housing unit information if it is not
available - or with an accompanying site map, if found?

 2. There is no comprehensive directory that lists each and every
retirement community in New Jersey. Therefore, unless there is some
information about the community online, there is no way for a
researcher to know that "all" have been found. Would you settle for a
list of communities that can be found online?

3. Many retirement communities have independent living - plus assisted
living. I am assuming you do not want these.


 With this said, would you be willing to accept an answer consisting
of a listing of 50+ Retirement communities with website links which
"can" be found through a thorough online search?

An example of such a listing would be as follows (although I will try

UMIAT,

Thank you for taking my question.  To clarify:

1.  Finding the listing without the # of units is fine, I understand
from my own search that in most cases you need to call the community,
however in rare cases they list it on the site.  If an accompanying
site map is available that would be great but definetly not neccsary.

2.  Cleary there are hundreds of communities and its understandable
that finding all is near impossible so I would absolutely settle for
as many as can be found online.

3. Correct, I am not interested in any that offer assisted living.

Again, I am looking for existing communities that are already built. 
Also, one thing i left out in the original quesion would be if you
could limit the average price of each house to no less than $325,000.

clarification. Suppose I only find listings for 30, or 50? I don't
want to start delving into research and come up with a disappointing

I've been looking into your question along with umiat-ga, and I've
managed to compile a list of close to 200 retirement communities in
New Jersey.

All of these communities are what is typically called "independent
living" communities, although a fair number of them offer mixed
capabilities, ranging from total independent living, to full-fledged
nursing home type services.

Additionally, the housing styles are quite mixed -- homes, apartments,
mobile homes, residential facilities, and so on.


Here's a partial list from mid-NJ.  Please let me know if these are
the types of listings you're looking for.

If they are...great.  I can post the full list as an answer to your question.

If this is NOT the sort of list you need, please let me know what sort
of additional information you're after.

Answers! I might have misunderstood the type of 50+ retirement
communities you were seeking, anyway, as I was under the impression
that you wanted high-end, individual, residential communities like
those I offered in my initial clarification as opposed to assisted
living communities with independent living attached. Again, I am sorry
