Dear recipient,
I have a very clean install of Windows XP with all the patches and I
have installed PuTTY program correctly. The program works perfectly
except only one thing, the beep sound that informs about new
activities in the PuTTY window doesn't work.
The PuTTY program even gives 'Bell in window 1' warning correctly when
I have my 'screen' UNIX program running trough PuTTY connection, but
there isn't still that beep sound as it should be.
I have checked already:
a) My settings in the PuTTY program are correct (and I have tried to
change them between 'Make default system alarm sound' and 'Beep using
the PC speaker' and 'Play a custom sound file')
b) My sounds work perfectly in my computer otherwise and I have
checked that I haven't muted my sounds (the other programs like mIRC
give the signaling sounds as normal, e.g. I have tested IRC connection
simultaneously between mIRC and the 'screen-IRC' program through PuTTY
program)
c) Restarting the PuTTY program or Windows doesn't help and most of
the Windows resources are totally available (so it's not about my
computer mishaving or not responding)
So is there any possibility that 'Ctrl-G' sent by the original server
through PuTTY doesn't work with Windows XP because somehow the Windows
default beep option is turned off to protect that not all the programs
would cause Windows bell to ring ?
Or is the 'internal PC beep' somehow switched off in the hardware
configurations and I just can't locate the option I should switch ?
Or is there any other solution or explanation for this problem ?
(Or is it the fact that in Windows XP that PuTTY option is not
supposed to work, which I don't believe in, because I didn't find from
the internet any complaints or anyone else having the same problem /
feature than me)
Description of the PuTTY bell option and how it should work can be
found from here e.g. :

It would be very nice to have this option working since I think that
alarming about your most active communication windows is the most
basic things you would except from the programs like this.
