Straus, Gunst & Co. of Richmond, VA ran regular newspaper ads around
the time from 1904-1913, then seemed to disappear from view. There
were two ads -- one for whiskey, one for rye (whatever happened to
rye, anyway...?).
Other than two types of ads, the only information I found on them was
a brief obituary of Henry Gunst, an immigrant and Confederate veteran,
who was one of the original bigwigs in the company.
Would the two ads and the obituary be enough to make for an answer to
your question?
