Larry,

In the title of your question, you say "publisher if possible." Could
you explain what you mean by this? Do you want us to cite a book or
other published source for the proverb, and give you the name of the
publisher?

Thanks!

Finding the original source or the author of an old saying is
generally not possible, since such sayings often do not originate in
printed material, but in oral tradition.

I have found numerous citations of this Chinese proverb on the Web,
and have found a reference to one book (nonfiction) that quotes the
proverb. Is that the sort of information that you are needing?

The western translation is much later than the original chinese
scripts, (you need the western publication?)

Also is the English translation is a poor translation of the Chinese
saying:
"If you are saved by someone, you are forever in their debt"?
i.e. if you save someone, they are in your debt and will serve you
until they die... they care for you, - but you take them as a
companion (so there 'may' be a mix up of who is caring for who in the
translation)
