Question ID: 709136
I'm studying medium-sized rock concert venues (about 5,000 people) and
I'm interested in any internet resources that might help me start
working up a worldwide list. I'm interested in both raw statistics --
audience capacity, square footage -- as well as judgments by fans and
bands about the venues they like the best.

Another aspect I'm interested in is venues that have a creative
solution to what to do with their space the 90% of the time that no
concert is going on, and also rock venues that manage to create
synergies with other youth-focused places -- dance studios, artist
ateliers, cafes, etc. You could call that a "cultural center" but
what a turn-off of a term!

I'll be working on this a while and hoped I could draw on some
seasoned internet researchers to get started. Thanks a lot.

I realize that some information on rock venues might not be
public-domain. I have access to the usual academic resources such as
Lexis-Nexis and I would certainly accept references to articles in
newspapers, magazines, etc. whose text does not appear on the
internet.

There are many sources for the "laundry list" of venues that you want.
The best is probably found on the Billboard Magazine site having to do
with Live Touring.

The other part of your question is much more intiguing to me. I teach
about the music industry at a college in Canada and I myself wondered
about the trend to multipurpose facilities and how their use was
envisaged. This is what I use with my students and I think you will
find the following link to be a wealth of information and research on
your topic. Good Luck!
