On our website (http://www.mitconsulting.ca), when we take a look at
the browser agents, the vast majority (>90%) are from Windows based
machines, with a small number of Macs.
Part of the problem with answering your question is that the answer
really depends on how the measurement is taken. There are good
measures for number of Windows or OS-X machines that are shipped in
any given month, but poor measures for older machines that may or may
not be in service. It is even worse with Linux or other similar
flavors of OS, because tpyically people put them together and install
them by themselves, so there is no central repository of info on how
many are out there.
The biggest surveys I've seen, with a few thousand respondants, seem
to indicate that among PCs (not including servers), Windows has around
80 - 90% of the market, Max at 10 - 15% and everything else would be 1
- 5% in total combined. |
