Hello, I would like to find out what percentage of freshman students take remediation courses and why there are so many students that don't have the necessary skills to start college level courses. I'm looking for either statistics or an article on that topic. I'm also looking for online products that exist on the market that not only test students but also offer online remediation courses that help students to reach a certain level of proficiency. If available some form of statistics or report on the success rate of these courses would be great. The one product I know of that tests students on skills is ACCUPLACER offered by the College Board of Education but that product doesn't offer courses for students to enhance on skills: http://www.collegeboard.com/highered/apr/accu/accu.html There is PLATO: http://www.plato.com/ (but this seems to target pre-college level) A recent announcement from SMARTTHINKING: http://www.smarthinking.com/static/aboutUs/newsAndEvents/pressReleases/press63.cfm Please let me know if there are to many questions and I will break this up further. Please send me any comments or questions. Thanks for any help, - Holger |

You probably will get a better response if you repost this as several separate questions. Multi-part questions are somewhat daunting to a Researcher. We are not supposed to post partial answers, and a failure to find answers to all parts of a multi-part question will mean that we can receive no compensation. |
