Question ID: 709852
I was in the process of purchasing a vet clinic in my hometown when I
became painfully aware that someone was taking out personal loans in
my name, I took the necessary steps to prosecute and it turned out to
be connected to my step-mother, when this was figured out my father
threated to make things disapear, and ruin my life if I did not drop
my charges. I refused, and my father called my vet office and bashed
me to my potential seller, which made him back out on selling to me,
and caused me my salary. She then called all of the vet clinics in the
area, within a 50 mile radius and bashed me which has cost me clients
and my livelyhood. Please help me understand my legal rights, in
Texas.

1) What did your Father tell the potential seller?
2) What did your Step-Mother tell the other vet clinics?
3) Most importantly, were these things told about you TRUE or FALSE?

Please use the "clarification" feature to answer so I can assist further.

Father said that I was a bad person, and that I will ruin his office
(potential seller) and reputation, and that I would be a
disappointment to the vet society, which is the same thing my step-mom
stated to them as well.

None of these statements were fact.

You have to prove that what he said was false. Someone can defame you
all they want with true facts or with opinions. Only when someone
lies can you they be in trouble.

(This is a simplification. A researcher can give you full info.)

In addition to what nelson-ga stated it also has to be believable.
They can say your hitler, stalin, etc.. You could take here to small
claims court, or civil if you wanted. You would have to prove damages.
I'd call Judge Judy(where I got the above info) sounds like a case for
good TV.
