I believe that the Indian Stock Market plans to allow short selling of
stocks.  I would like to know when this will go into effect?

From what I can see, both the National Stock Exchange in India, and
the Bombay Stock Exchange, both already allow short-selling.

Can you elaborate on your question?  What leads you to believe that
short sales are not currently permitted?

That is correct - I believe that I read that the Indian Stock Markets
have not yet approved Short Selling for equities.
