Please help to spice up my life.

Where can I order Bolivian Aji Amarillo (yellow chili) in pod form? I
live in New York City and have a recipe which calls for that chili.
Used other kinds of chilis but they don't provide the same taste
experience. It's like using margarine instead of butter, close but no
cigar. Will pay any price for that spice.

Hi sfilzen:

Thanks for the hot and spicy question! :-)

I found three places that appear to sell the pod form (as opposed to
the powder/paste form) of the Aji Amarillo pepper.

1. The Global Market Place

URL: http://www.globalfoodmarket.com/cgi-bin/gmpshops/catalog/scaribe.htm

Description: "From Peru, this exquisite yellow hot pepper in brine is
used in many dishes, it is hot with a fruity taste. Used in fish or
shellfish, ceviche, soups, stews, salads."

Price: $5.27 per 20 oz. jar/can. They have an online shopping cart
model. Shipping charges and information can be found at

http://www.globalfoodmarket.com/policy.htm

Contact Information:

The Global Food Market
5699 Kanan Road, Ste. 333
Agoura Hills, CA 91301
Fax: (818) 879-0462
email: staff@globalfoodmarket.com

2. Culinary Specialty Produce Inc.

URL: http://www.culinaryproduce.com/groceries/main.html#Chilies

Details: While they don't explicitly state that the peppers are in pod
form, since they list many "powdered" forms, I think we can assume
that the Ajis are whole. (They may, however, be dried.)

Price: unknown. However, they have an order form at:

http://www.culinaryproduce.com/order/main.html

Contact Information:

Culinary Specialty Produce, Inc.
1190 Route 22 West
Mountainside, NJ 07092
Tel: 908-789-4700
Fax: 908-789-4702
E-mail: info@culinaryproduce.com

3. Salsas, Etc.

URL: http://www.salsasetc.com/catalog/d-740b.html

Decription: "Amazonas Yellow Hot Pepper/Aji Amarillo Escabeche. Aji
Amarillo Escabeche is Made in South America."

Price: $6.25 per 13 oz. jar. They have an online shopping cart model.
Shipping choices can be found at:

Contact Information:

421 Center Street,
Yuba City, CA 95991

The following site has good, short descriptions of many hot peppers as
well as dozens of chile recipes.

Hi

Your suggestions were close but not on the mark. I am looking for Aji
Amarillo from Bolivia not from Peru. Although they are neighbors,
their produce taste different, according to friends who have well
educated palates.

Do you have any suggestions where I can get the real thing?

Bye

Hi sfilzen:

The only place I could find that looked like it sold the chiles from
Bolivia was:

http://www.boliviamall.com/Merchant2/html/Oferta_semana.html

Go down to "Oferta 7".
