Francis Ouimet won the U.S. Golf Open tournament in 1913, at age 20. He lived across the street from The Country Club, in Brookline, MA where the tournament was held. What was his brother's name and age, and also the names of his parents (presumably French Canadians)? Did Francis ever marry, and if so his wife's name? |

Hi, I too was unable to find all the information you need, however I did find out that his father's name was Arthur, mother's name Mary and older brother's name Wilfred. I don't know if he married, but he did have a girlfriend called Stella. I found this information in the following article: http://www.lakesidepress.com/Golf/Ouimet-Review&Screenplay.htm I hope this helps, Ali |

12-5-2002 Another biographical source I found says that his father's name was LOUIS OUIMET (and yes, he was a French Canadian immigrant), and that on Sept. 11, 1918 he married STELLA M. SULLIVAN and they had 2 children, and he died in Newton, MA. There is a museum of Ouimet papers/memorabilia at www.ouimet.org, so perhaps you could contact them to ask your questions and they probably have an expert on staff who could provide definitive answers. You didn't mention why you wanted the information--are you doing a book or article about him? Were you aware that an American postage stamp had been issued in his honor? SINCERELY, 4keith-ga |

12-6-2002 In my message of December 5, I forgot to mention that if you visit the website www.ouimet.org, you need to at least view the page for 10 seconds or more since they have revised it so that a newly-revised website with related Ouimet information will appear to replace the old webpage.
