My son, who is a straight A student and enters university in 2007,
wants to be an astronaut. He plans to get undergraduate and graduate
degrees in physics. He thinks he may want to attend Harvard for his
graduate degree. What is the best university to get his undergraduate
degree in physics. Thank you

The best physics departments in the US are, understandably, also the
toughest to get accepted to.  While there isn't universal agreement as
to which ones are the 'best', the following schools always show up on
lists of the best physics departments:

California Institute of Technology (Caltech)

Stanford University 

Harvard University 

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 

Princeton University

University of California at Berkeley

Cornell University

Your son might also consider Rice University:
http://physics.rice.edu/

If you click on "Rice" on the second line, you get the homepage for
the university itself.
