I am trying to estimate how much Starbucks pays for each dining chair
they purchase for their 6,000 retail stores.
Last year, they added roughly 700 stores and one could assume that
each store has maybe 15 chairs. So last year alone, they ordered
10,500 chairs. One would assume they are sourcing from Asia. Thanks
so much - an answer ASAP would be greatly appreciated!

Hi czh-ga,

I was referring to the standard wooden chairs - either the ones with
the slats or with the cutouts in the back - so the chairs shown in
these links:

http://you-are-here.com/restaurant/starbucks.html
http://www.santabarbara.com/dining/review_read.asp?pk_restaurant=1170

And not the retail price, but what they pay themselves per chair.
Thanks!

I'm geussing it is costing them around 5$ per chair, but there apear
to be different models, there is the 'couchy chair' and the 'frame
chair'

I would say the couchys cost around 10$ and the frames 5$ if
commercial markup applies at 3x to that so 30$ and 15$

Restaurant grade chairs are not cheap, I know.
Can you pst a link to an example of a chair at starbuck and I might be
able to help.
I priced restaurant chairs at the biggest restaurant/food show in the
USA. I hit every vendor.

I agree Rox, these chairs can't be dirt cheap.

And Catalyst, don't forget to estimate the replacement rate for
existing Starbucks chairs. They can't last forever... and I imagine
that they are replaced at fairly low level of ware.

AT 10,000+ chairs a year, they probably are dirt cheap. They have
serious negotiatiating power with that volume.

Thanks for the comments so far - I'm guessing roxrox-ga has more of
the right idea. Roxrox, if you could estimate for the wooden chairs I
listed above, that would be great...

Just to get an idea of what chairs can cost, check out this site:
http://www.sinyavka.zubr.com/stule.htm

Add 20% for dollar prices.

Ikea USA on page 194 of its present catalog sells a simple wooden chair for $19.95
http://www3.ecweb.is/ussd/

Remember that these are retail prices. If Starbucks can't go directly
to manufacturers and buy in its quantities for a whole number fraction
of these prices, I would be very surprised.

My estimate is about $80 a chair.
