So, roughly 3-4 years ago I read this book, and although I remember
enjoying the book, I can no longer remember either the TITLE or its
AUTHOR. It's been driving me crazy for about a week now, and this is
how I've decided to solve the problem. I'm calling on my friends (or
people, I barely know, actually) for literary assistance.

Here is what I know:

The book's main character was a guy who was probably mentally unstable
and I think had done/did a lot of drugs. He lived in NYC in a really
messy apt. (stacks of dishes, mounds of newspapers, collections of
empty chinese food cartons) where he only had a very small space left
to sleep. He walked around NYC looking for kazoos (those tiny, breathy
instruments that tickle your lips) because at the end of the book
there is supposed to be a giant concert, starring a kazoo chorus.
Also, there was an entire chapter which consisted of only 1-2 words
repeated over and over and over and over again for about 4 pages.

If this rings a bell for anyone ... PLEASE let me know. My brain hurts.
