I am using xp prof and am unable to access either of my cd rom drives,
one is DVD. I have checked my computer and it does not show either
drive. computer otherwise works okay.

Re my question: I also have a cd in the dvd drive and cannot eject it.
guess that is bz the computer will not recognize the drive.

Hi

The one cd rom will open but the other one, the dvd drive, shows a
light but will not eject the disk which is in it, have checked all
cables, and there is no pin hole in front of drive, disk should
automatically discharge when I press button on front. help is
appreciated.

If you cannot eject it using the button on the front, perhaps the
power has become disconnected from inside the case?

Thanks for the info:  neither cd rom drives are active, I checked the pwr to each 
one and plusgs in solid.

To eject the CD from the drive use a paper clip or a toot pick, Push
it in the hole that you will see next to the eject button of the CD
drive. The drive will open without having to power it on.

Regarding the problem with your drive not detecting. Check both the
cable that go to the Drive. One is the power cable and the other is
the grey ribbon cable try reseating it. If this doesnot work. Go to
the bios of the computer and check if it is enabled there. If this
also doesnot work then you have either a defective CD drive or Cable
