Hi,

I would like to know if selling imported dvds from other countries
such as europe and asia legal? There are different region codes for
dvds and US for instance is 1. I think the motion picture companies do
this to protect from seperate markets. Anyhow, I want to know if I buy
a, for example, Lord of The Rings dvd from europe with a cheaper price
and then sell it back in US. And the dvd will be playable in the US
with no problem because it will be all region dvd and the discs are
not copied but produced in the factory in europe. But I just want to
know if this is legal. I know there are strange laws such like buying
cigarettes in one state and selling them in another is illegal. So I'm
wondering if this priniciple applies to DVDs too. I'm trying to start
a DVD online business. Please provide with reliable sources. Thanks.

I live in the UK and one of my local dealers who used to sell
second-hand NTSC (US) videos was ordered to stop because they had not
been approved by the UK authorities for showing in this country.

However ...

I can get the same stuff (and also imported DVDs) from dozens of
online suppliers based outside the UK!

Legal or not, the laws seem to be unenforceable at best.
