What are the materials that could be used to manufacture bottles of
carbonated drinks (i.e. coca cola, pepsi cola, etc)? what are the pros
and cons of each of them?
I also need a long list of articles/websites that:
- detail the material selection process for these bottles/also cans!
- what are the functions required for such product material?
- compare between available materials in terms of technical
properties, commercial, economical and environmental feasibility |

Hello again strongdave-ga,
I answered your question on Organization Strategy so I hope I will be
able to help you with your newest question.
You say that you need a ?detailed explanation? of the chart of
packaging materials shown in the link you provided from the British
Soft Drinks Association. This link provides a table with three
headings: Type of Container, Attributes and Disadvantages. The Type of
Container column describes the material the container is made of. The
Attributes column gives the ?pros? for using this material and the
Disadvantages column shows the ?cons.? These columns seem fairly
detailed to me so I would like to know what additional information you
need for this part of your question. What kinds of details are you
looking for? Please give examples or an expanded description so I can
complete this research for you.
Please also clarify what you mean by ?selection process for these
bottles/also cans?? Whose perspective are you applying for this
question? Please take a look at some additional resources on the
BSDA?s website to see if they might help with reformulating your
question.

Prevention by Source Reduction
This manufacturers guidance assists in the maintenance of consistency
of supply of drinks containers - cans, glass and plastic bottles.
This document gives detailed information about process controls for
all types of soft drink containers. Is this the information you?re
looking for? Please also review the additional publications offered by
BSDA to see if they might help. It seems that they offer a lot of
information about the materials used in soft drink packaging and also
address your other questions.

I hope these additional links will assist you in clarifying your
questions. I?m eager to help you find the information you need.
I look forward to your clarification.

Hi again ~ czh ~
I surely remember your good work. Thanks for your request. I will try
to focus my question more by asking specific questions.
- List the basic functions these soft drink containers have to perform?
- is there any viable material to store carbonated soft drinks other
than aluminum cans, glass bottles, PET bottles?
- I am looking for any artciles/website that detail the advantages and
disadvantages of using glass, plastic bottles, aluminum cans. e.g.
what's the price difference? weight difference of these materials?
- in particular, what are the advantages of using plastic over glass
bottles? environmental advantges? commercial or economical advantages?
mechanical/thermal properties of plastics and glass?
- What's the process of replacing the original material for an existing product?
- what is the market share for plastic and glass bottles in the UK
soft drink packaging industry?
- What are the british/international standards these soft drink
containers have to comply with?
I hope these have clarified my original question. If you have any
questions, don't hesistate to request more clarifications.
