Hello and thank you for your question.

Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) members include
Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi
Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela.

A detailed table of Imports of Crude Oil and Petroleum Products into
the United States 2001 by Country of Origin can be found here:
Source: Energy Information Administration
http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/rankings/totimportsby_country.htm

The U.S. imported 54 percent of its petroleum supply in 2001.
Petroleum imports averaged 10.6 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2001
to meet a total U.S. demand of 19.6 million b/d.

“During 2001, about 48 percent of U.S. crude oil imports came from the
Western Hemisphere (19 percent from South America, 15 percent from
Mexico, and 14 percent from Canada), while 30 percent came from the
Persian Gulf region (18 percent from Saudi Arabia, 9 percent from
Iraq, and 3 percent from Kuwait).”

A June 2002 Air Force Magazine published the following 3 charts.

1. US Oil Suppliers by Region 2001 (percent of total)
2. US Oil Suppliers 1996 (billions of dollars)
3. US Oil Suppliers 2001 (billions of dollars)

“The US is becoming increasingly dependent on foreign oil, but the
biggest source is not the Middle East. In 2001, however, imports
accounted for 57 percent of US consumption.(..) Saudi Arabia is the
third-largest individual supplier of oil to the US, with sales of
$12.5 billion last year. The Middle East supplies less than one
quarter of all imports.”
