I'm not an expert (or an official researcher,) but, yeah, I'd bet you're running into a DVD Region Code situation. The USA (and Canada) is DVD Region Code 1. India (and some other countries) is DVD Region 5. It seems likely that the USA-purchased DVD player is coded to Region 1 and that any DVDs you've acquired locally are Region 5 and won't play on a Region 1 player. Supposedly, it's possible to reset the region coding for some DVD players, but I don't know if this is possible for your particular model, nor how you might do about doing it. There are probably websites and newsgroups with further information on how to hack your DVD coding, but who knows if their information is good... |

I found 2 different possible ways of hacking your Apex AD 1110W. "There is no known way to make the AD-1010W or AD-1110W truly "region-free" or "VCR-friendly". However, it may be possible to "force" your player to be region-free. More details below. And, in the case of the AD-1010W, some units come with VCD support disabled from the factory. VCD-enabled firmware from the AD-1110W (yes, 1110W, not 1010W) is available, and can be loaded on the VCD-disabled AD-1010W units, in order to gain VCD support. See below." The previous text was taken from http://www.nerd-out.com/darrenk/1110W/AD1010W-1110W.htm Additionally, on this page http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=176&Thread=494122&Page=3&Type=1 Esperance posts his way unlocking the Apex: "I found a hack that works on my Apex 1110w. While the dvd loads, just click "program" repeatedly until the program menu comes up. This takes a lot of patience and practice, though, because if you click too slowly, it won't work, and if you click too quickly, you'll flip by the menu and get the "wrong region" message and have to start over. Like I read from several others who try hacking this model, the player begins a grinding noise when it's trying to work with the out-of-region dvd. With mine, I know it's time to slow down the clicking after the second time my machine goes "whirrrrrrrrrrGrindPause." I slow down from a fast pace to a steady pace, and then I can usually catch the program menu page. Now you have to enter chapter info for the scenes on your movie. A "start" option appears at the bottom when you fill in the first line." Hope these pages help. G'luck. |
