I just got the most unfair job review of my 25 year career, after
completing my first year with this Silicon Valley (california) giant
(NOT google); I am wondering whether it is worth it to get legal
counsel or should I just put up with it and accept it without
fighting.

There is no question that I have a good case and that the managers and
their boss have lied. On the other hand, I don't have deep pockets and
have to take care of my family, after being unemployed for 2 years
before this position came along. Of course, the company has a large
number of lawyers.

My lower ranking (first ever) takes away many of my perks (not the benefits) and in
addition, the proposed performance improvement plan is so unrealistic
that the targets in it, after 45 days, will remain unattained. On the
other hand, by going along, I will have at least some time to look
around for another job. Afraid that if I get get any legal counsel or
even protest/resist in any way, they will just invoke the "at will"
and terminate my employment;

For what it is worth, I have supporters outside this department - my
peers who transferred - though they may have limited abilities and
willingness; My job is in a non-managerial capacity and is technical
in nature.

Please reply as soon as possible and I can clarify as required;

Are you in a protected class? (age, race, gender, religion, etc.) Is
your situation unique or have you heard of others with similar
experiences as yours in this company?

No, I am a US citizen, and a man of Asian origin; Not looking for
discrimination-based approach and rapidly realizing that this battle
may be already lost.
I am more interested in protecting my reputation and employability and
at the same time don't want to spend (don't have) huge amounts in any
legal processes.
