Hello,

I have been having headaches since beginning of February. I have had
those tension headches, but these are different. I don't have any
throbbing, pounding, pulsing etc. and they don't spread to other areas
of my head or face. The headaches don't reach that "real bad" stage
overtime. It's just a real bad pressure headache in the middle of my
head that starts from a high intensity. It can happen at times a
couple of times a day, sometimes once a day, sometimes I can go on
without one for a couple of days. I don't get irritated by light or
sound when I'm having the headaches. I don't see stripes, stars etc. I
do feel tingly in my finger tips and feel nauseaous and "foggy in my
head". They go away as swiftly and quickly as they come. There are no
ascending and descending stages/steps to my headches.

I have had bad heaches before too (though not of the same nature) and
had 2 CTs and one MRI done. The first CT was done in '99 and they
found some calcium deposits at the base of the head. The second CT was
done in '03 and they found small spots on the top portion of my head
(where I have my headaches) and couldn't figure if it was new calcium
spots. So I was scheduled for an MRI. The MRI, according to the
neurologist showed two new miniscule calcium spots. The headaches went
away and I was fine until they reappeared in February. I waited 3
weeks, and when they still persisted I called my doc. She did some
routine physical checkup and asked me a few questions and said that if
it would make me feel any better she can schedule me for another CT or
refer me to another neurologist. I opted to see the neurologist. At my
appointment he made me walk in a line with my eyes closed, checked my
reflexes etc. and asked questions. He did not look at my MRI or CT
himself. When I asked what the reports said, if he thought I had
another calcium deposit, he told me that the radiologist did not see
calcium but some bloating and in the MRI it turned up that it was my
sinus which was a little puffed up. But I had a written result/report
from my doc saying I had more calcium spots and to see a neuro and
schedule an MRI???!!! And this neuro was convinced that I had some
sort of "constant migraine", though I have never heard of such a thing
nor found anything on the net. And I don't feel convinced with his
diagnosis.

My husband thinks that I should go for another CT just to make myself
feel better. All are pretty sure it's nothing bad because I don't sway
while I walk, I don't slur when I speak, or have vision or hearing
problems. The docs were of the opinion that if there is something
"bad" in the upper portion of my brain then some of my mental and
physical faculties should be affected by now. The fact that nothing
else is wrong, convinces them that it is just migraine at worst.

I am a little lost. I don't want to have too many CTs done. I already
have 2 taken. But I don't buy that it's some sort of constant
migraine. Wanted some sound advice as to what to do and if anyone has
gone through similar headaches and found it to be just migraine (even
though it doesn't feel like one).

Looking forward to some good advice. Thanks in advance.

No, your headaches are not 'normal'.

A friend of mine from suffered severe migraines for 30 years before he
discovered that he was allergic to yeast. In the meantime, he'd seen
every doctor, specialist, clinic under the sun. He discovered his
allergy himself after getting a book out of the library.

Of course, your headaches may not be allergy related but if you
haven't done so already why not have some allergy and sensitivity
tests. Just in case.

All the Best

A guy I know spent a year suffering from mysterious headaches.

It finally turned out to be something to do with a trapped nerve in his neck.
- it took them a long time to track it down

Dear Iabh-ga,
I feel hesitant about making another suggestion, but would feel
negligent for not doing so. I knew someone decades ago who had
headaches before they were recognized as a symptom for a tumor -
which I expect has been considered by your doctors already - and
would have shown up on a CT or MRI. But I also know someone whose
doctors for years denied that his double vision could result from a
tumor.

Sorry to raise this most unfortunate possibility.
As you should read in the disclaimer below, nothing posted here is
professional advice.

Don't hesitate to have more examinations or see other specialists.
All the best, Myoarin

Migrain normally occurs in one side of the head, not in the center.

One other point
- a few years ago I had two MRI scans for an unpleasant ongoing problem.

The radiologist who reported on the second scan also examined and
reported on the first scan.

His report bore absolutely no resemblance to the first radiologists report
- very strange

Another thing I've noticed is that specialists seem to have one trick
up their sleeve, if that does not work, I've found that they give up.

In the case I mentioned earlier, it took a year to find the problem,
and I reckon that if he did not happen to be firmly in the UK's 'Rich
List' he would still be suffering today.

Keep trying - best of Luck.
