The best I managed to come up with was this reference in an article,
which appears to confirm that Hunter S. Thompson actually had a
personal photographer who used the name 'Lacerda'. Who the person was,
however, remains unknown but to Thompson, and alas, he isn't talking
anymore. There are a number of photographers with this name and I
hesistate to point the finger at any one in particular:
Thompson had been involved in politics since he ran and almost won the
1970 Colorado sheriff election, losing 51%-49%, thus depriving him the
chance to become Colorado's first 'mescaline' sheriff. And it was for
his notorious drug intake and not just his left-wing political stance
that earned him legendary status. His huge acid ingestion chronicled
in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, when he and close-friend, the
fellow controversial Chicano author and some-time lawyer Oscar-Zeta
Acosta (Dr. Gonzo) went on a mind-bending psychedelic adventure
through Las Vegas in search of the American Dream, resulting in the
consumption of almost every drug known to man, the wrecking of
thousands of dollars' worth of cars, unpaid hotel bills, the
desecration of hotel rooms, the possible rape of a minor, and the
mental damage done to dozens of tourists, bar and restaurant owners,
and even Thompson's' own personal photographer, 'Lacerda.'

So it seems that there was a real-life photographer named 'Lacerda' in
Thompson's life but in the absence of more detailed information about
him does this suffice as an answer?
