In DOS, batch files combine many keystrokes into one keystroke which
saves time and avoids mistakes on repetitive computer actions. It
seems to me that macros coming free or bought from the internet can do
the same for windows 98. I would like to create a macro which will
take the symbol of a stock from a vertical list located in a notepad,
trasport it to the ticker symbol location of a website such as
http://chart.yahoo.com/d?a=1&b=1&c=2005&d=2&e=1&f=2005&g=d&s=mdt
click "enter" or "Look up", highlight the prices thus retrieved,
transfer them to clipboard by pressing CTRL-C, go back to notepad,
insert the price list into the notepad after the symbol of the said
stock by pressing CTRL-V, and go to the next symbol where the macro
will be restarted for the next symbol.

Does anybody know if this is possible, and how to do it?

Possible? Yes. Easy? No. I'd recommend using a scripting language
such as Python or Ruby or Perl. An expert might be able to whip this
application out in a few hours.

hours" for pay, of couse

If you are in a sufficiently populated area and you would like to deal
with your expert in person, you could try the employment services of
local colleges or the craigslist web site
(http://www.craigslist.org/). If you would prefer to work with
someone through the Internet, there is a sizeable list of sites where
you could find someone in this Google Answer:

I believe you can get skilled labor very cheap this way. Good luck.
