I have recieved an email advising me to upgrade to the 2006 version of
Norton internet security. But the 2006 version reqires windows xp and
I have windows 98
for which only the 2005 version seems to be available.I do not want to
upgrade but also do not want to say unprotected. Can anybody advise me
what to do?

Apparently, you have the latest version for Windows98:

"Norton Internet Security? 2006 is designed for Windows XP and 2000
only. If you are using Windows 98 or Me, please click here to purchase
