I am wanting to start an "exercise program and healthy eating habits"
lifestyle. I am looking for a year long program or something similar
to use to 1) lose weight, 2) increase the health of my heart, 3) gain
muscle mass, and 4) live longer.

Any help is appreciated!

I expect someone will have advice on the exercise but the only way to
live longer is to have been born sooner.

There are many programs to accomplish all this. The problem is, each
person has a different biological structure, so one that works for you
may not work for you.

But, even more so, each person has different emotional needs.

I might love to run long, slow distances, but you might hate being alone that long.

Some might use an exercise machine at home; others will find it boring
and need to go to a gym for motivation.

I would say that emotion is probably the most common reason these programs fail.

For example, for me the ATkins diet worked great, but most people will
find it too complex and too much work. For me, it was great. My
daughter decided she could not do without carbs, and put all the
weight back on.

Some men like bulking up, that is, lifting heavy weights. Others like
to run or bike or walk or do pushups. Others prefer a dietary change,
with modest exercise.

So, there is no real way to tell you what to do. You have to learn to
know yourself.

A year or two ago, Consumers Report did a report on diets and
exercise. I thinkk maybe Reader's Digest did, also.

There are tons of books on this subject.

The one I would read first is by the guy who did the first heatr transplant.

Christian Barnard "50 Ways to a Healthy Heart"

It covers everytthing with a browd brush and desn't make you feel like
an idiot, victim, or Superhero in training. Just a hormal person doing
normal things and taking reasonable precautions.
