Melody pops into my head every once in a while for years; this is as
close as I could come to approximating it in MIDI:

The tune was from a rap/pop song released in about 1991 I think.  Just
curious if anyone could identify the song since I thought it was
catchy.

It could be "Nuthin' but a G Thang" but Dre and Snoop.  There is a
good chance it is g-funk.
