I already know the definations and the difference between internal and
external motivation.  I just need to know why external and internal
motivation are important in everyday life.

External motivation : if you flunk your homework then your allowance will cease

Internal motivation : you are remotely interested in the subject

However a sophist would argue that all motivation is external
