Hello ,

I had recently moved into NJ and borrowed my friend's car (who
returned back to his home country because of Visa completion). A cop
on random check found out my registration is expired and caught me .
I gave the one inside car, but the registration seemed to have expired
for 2 months now, when I searched for insurance I only had old insurance card,
though insurance has been paid monthly, I did not have the
new insurance card at the moment.

The cop towed my car citing that he wouldnt let an unregistered
vehicle on the road. I got two tickets for driving "unregistered vehicle" and
"uninsured vehicle" and he had asked me to appear in court along with
the owner of the car , who also got the same two tickets as i did.

Problem is I am unable to renew the registration, the owner missed the
renewal form and his license is also expired. So neither online or
telephone renewal is possible. Already four days have passed I dont
know what to do.

Adding to that vehicle is under mortgage and my friend will be not
able to come over here to US for another 4-5 months, now let me know

How to resolve this and take back the vehicle at the earliest ? & What
are my alternatives to reregister the vehicle and release it from the
impound ?

I never had a ticket in my 5 years of driving history , how should i
handle the situtaion , plead guilty or not plead guilty ?

What is the day today cost for vehicle impounding in NJ?

How can i get around this problem by not spending not too much time
(going to court etc) ?

Any timely help is greatly appreciated , this situation happend in the
state of New jersey (NJ).

For getting the vehicle they require:
valid insurance
valid registration
Proof of ownership

We are unable to register the vehicle. Without registering we cannot
get the vehicle released. We have current insurance and owner is in
India.

1. Contact the impound yard and find out what you need to get the
vehicle out of impound. Every day it is left in impound your fees
accrue.

2. More often than not, they will want a notoraized letter from the
owner giving you permission to get the car out of impound. Depending
on the value of the car it may not be worth getting it out of impound
if the fees get too high.

3. If the insurance was paid get a letter from the insurance compnay
that there was insurance on the car on the date of the ticket. When
you go court plead not guilty and show the court the letter.
