Howdy mreddie-ga,

According to these posting by the same person, the St. Mihiel (AP-32)
transport ship was used to move the "Akutan Zero" to San Diego.

Hi mreddie

The plane appears to have been shipped twice, from Akutan to Dutch
Harbor and from Dutch Harbor to North Island NAS, San Diego, although
I have been unable to locate the ships the information may well be in
"Koga?s Zero" by Jim Rearden, Pictorial Histories Publishing 1996, 0929521560
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0929521560
aka ?Cracking the Zero Mystery" Stackpole Books, 1990, 081172235X
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/081172235X

Interestingly it turns out this famous plane might not have been the
first Zero captured by the allies, see

The Japanese zero was sent from Dutch Harbor to Seattle on the USAT
St. Mihiel on June 25, 1942. Arrived July 14, 1942 Seattle pier 41. It
was then transfered to another ship (aNavy AK Transport) to arrive
North Island, San Diego August 25, 1942. (Info from National Unalaska
WWII Museum)

My question is.. What was the name of the ship that took it from
Seattle to San Diego???

Ahh, with the information above, I should have stated:
