The last name "Canjura" seems to only be found in Central America. One person I queried said that it could be a Mayan term for "Seven Monkeys" or the Moorish "Al-Khanjur", but another acquiantance in Spain said it could *not* be found in the Madrid phone book (ie, it is probably not Moorish). There is an herb called "Canjura" in Panama that is used for leprosy. However, that's quite a bit a ways from Honduras and El Salvador, the two nations that have Canjuras in them. So, what IS the origin of the name Canjura? |
