I have been assigned a group project for an International Business
class wherein I must 'issue-spot' the financials of an imaginary
US-based company that intends to sell a product abroad.
The resulting paper will be divided into 5 areas: R&D, Marketing,
Operations, Import/Export, and Finance. Each is intended to have some
10 pages of detail, for a total of 50. I am responsible for the
Finance section.
My group has tentatively designated the company as a US motorcycle
manufacturer selling to those countries in the European Union.
The specific product of our business seems irrelevant, merely that it
is a manufactured product. Similarly, the EU is our sales destination
only because regulations will be less obscure. The paper is intended
to be quite broad, and though issues specific to certain EU countries
will come up, no single country will be the complete focus.
Success is contingent on foresight: What kind of financial
problems/issues/regulations/opportunities would such a company face in
this move abroad?
I have already brainstormed a small list of threads to pursue, including:
- exchange rates / foreign currency
- wages
- accounting
- financial factors that would dictate whether or not to manufacture
abroad vs. shipping from the US
- tariffs (as they would pertain to finance)
- obtaining money for operations
.. but this is all preliminary at best. I don?t know where to find the
necessary details, or what I?ve missed.
I am looking for any or all of the following:
- a list of financial issues with very brief explanations
- relevant news articles/examples
- sources that I can use as a jumping-off point
- sources with authoritative analysis
- case studies (Harvard Business School, trade journals, and otherwise)
- library books, though I prefer online sources
- anything else you feel relevant
Or, in short: details, what to look for, and where!
Thanks for your time. |
