For a non-profit project we need some action script answers. We are
developing a content rating guide for parents to help them understand
the ratings of the various movies, music, TV shows and video games. We
have developed a grid of these ratings in Macromedia Flash 8 (Mac OSX)
but we want to add additional layers of depth to it. The functional
version is located at
http://www.neted.org/dialogue/ratings/chart.shtml . The goal is to
have the ratings icons (like TV14) clickable, yielding more
information about the rating. At the moment, the TV14 icon is simply a
button with a call-out mouseover. We want to have a user click on the
TV14 button and call a window (modal) that provides more in-depth
information. The window would contain text, images, and clickable
links to other content (see discussion of TV14_callout_answer.swf). We
believe that this should be done in Action Script within Flash.
We have posted a version of the main scene of the Flash grid within an
archive at http://www.neted.org/ratings/archive.zip . The archive
contains:
- Scene 1.fla
- Scene 1.htm
- Scene 1.swf
- TV14_callout_answer.swf
The TV14_callout_answer.swf is a mock-up image of what we would like
the window to look like when the user clicks on the TV14 icon/button
in the grid. The actual object is in the library as
TV14_callout_answer .
Ideally, we would like to keep this all in Flash. We are not experts
in Flash nor graphics (if it isn't already obvious). We are a small
non-profit trying to develop a resource for parents to help them guide
their kids' media consumption. We tried to create these popup windows
using the PopupManager Action Script in Flash 8 but could not get it
to work properly. We would like to customize the answer solution to
accommodate the other ratings icons on the page. Any help you could
provide would be greatly appreciated. |
