A boy has a tiger, a goat, and some greens that he must take into town
to be sold. To get to town he must cross a river. He cannot go around,
under, or fly over the river. He must cross the river with a raft and
he can only take ONE thing or animal at a time with him across the
river. However, he cannot leave the tiger with the goat because the
goat will be eaten and he cannot leave the goat with the greens as the
greens will get eaten. The only two that can be left are the tiger and
the greens. The boy can make as many trips as he wishes and we assume
that nothing get eaten when the boy is with them. How does the boy get
all of his cargo including himself across the river safely?

Hi bodhi1960,

We'll call the two sides A and B.

From side A, he takes the goat and leaves him on side B.
He goes back to side A and gets the tiger and takes him to side B.
He takes the goat back with him from side B to side A and leaves him there.
He takes the greens to side B.
He goes back to side A and picks up the goat and takes him to side B.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
Rainbow

Three cannibals and three missionaries must cross a river. Their boat
can only hold two people. If the cannibals outnumber the missionaries,
on either side of the river, the missionaries are in trouble (I won't
describe the results). Each missionary and each cannibal can row the
boat. How can all six get across the river?
