Question ID: 71598
I (want to) run a PPTP Server on Linux RedHat 7.1, using
pptpd-1.1.2 and ppd-4.2.1.

I have 100 static IP addresses (routable) that I need assigned
to 100 clients *permanently* (assignment occurs when I setup
the account).

I understand all the routing concepts and the ipfwadm/ipchains
setup. But, I'm stuck on the syntax for the chap-secrets file.
No matter what I try, the IP address assignment doesn't work
when I try to force it. I got it working if I let the addresses
be assigned at random.

What I want is basically this:
routable address (hypotetical) 123.123.123.1-100
local addresses (on server) 10.1.1.1-100
remote addresses (on client) 10.1.2.1-100

A user-id like "ip017" would get an internet address
of 123.123.123.17, with a server ppp0 interface of
10.1.1.17, and a remote interface address of 10.1.2.17.

Please provide a working chap-secrets & /etc/ppp/options.pptp
files.

Thanks.

I meant pppd-4.2.1. Also, I'll need a working /etc/ppptd.conf.
Please note that the local-ip / remote-ip ranges are there already.

A bit more info: When I added an IP address to the last column of
the chap-secrets file, the problem is that the same address gets
assigned to both the remote and the local end of the ppp connection.
This, of course, causes the routing to break.

BTW, when I asked for a "working" config file, I don't necessarily expect
it to work as-is on the first try... but I expect that it works under a
certain set of assumptions which could be reasonably be made to exist
in my environment.

Problem solved by modifying /etc/ppp/ip-up
