Question ID: 716254
I own 3 day nurseries. Each nursery cares for children aged from 3
months to 5 years. The nurseries are open from 8am to 6pm mon-fri all
year. Each nursery currently has a different name and I would like to
give them a group name. For example, I like "Careshare", "Kids 1st",
"kiddie Karoo" and "Kid Care". Unfortunately these names are already
taken!

I would like the name to be suggestive of what we do, as in the
examples above. For more information about my nurseries have a look at
our web site www.worcesterdaynursery.co.uk

Obviously the name cannot be the same as a UK chain of nurseries, or
any local operators in the Worcester, Uk area.

I not very keen on what I consider old school names such as "Little
Oaks" or "Honey Bees".

While I'm paying $50 for answering the question I'll happily pay
another $100 if I use the suggestion or it leads to it.

Any help appreciated,

Thanks.

Dear jiggyjim,

Below are my suggestions for naming your nursery chain. I have grouped
the names according to certain notions and ideals they suggest to me,
although your own interpretations may differ.

As far as I have been able to determine, none of these names is in use by
a Worcester area nursery or by a British national chain. I did, however,
discover a potential impediment to using the three names below that
include the word "start", since Sure Start is the name of a government
childcare service.

SureStart
http://www.surestart.gov.uk/surestartservices/settings/introduction/

I don't know how prominent a name Sure Start is in the UK or to what
extent the government would be inclined to pursue legal action against a
nursery chain whose name included the word "start". Personally, I would
hesitate to use any of these three names, but I left them on my list as
models that may inspire other formulations.

I also took the time to look into .co.uk domain names for each of
my suggestions. Because most two-word combinations have already been
reserved, even though only a small fraction of these have been turned
into live websites, I was unable in most cases to find the simplest
possible domain name.

If you do choose a name for which the most obvious .co.uk and .com
domains have been taken, I suggest as an alternative that you append
the word "nursery", as I have done below, or that you consider using
a different top-level domain, such as .net, .info, .nu, or .eu . You
can use the Go Daddy domain search box to check names for a variety of
popular top-level domains.

What about "Nanny's Place" or just "Nanny's", or some variation:
"Kids' Nanny", "My Nanny" ... ?

Thank you for the Nanny's idea. I like where you are coming from but
just think it sounds a little `old fashioned` for me.

Jiggyjim,
"... where you are coming from ...
If you think it sounds a little old fashioned, I guess it does.
My idea was that it might appeal to the parents of "your" kids to be
able to say that their youngsters are at their "Nanny's Place" or with
their "Nanny",
going on the assumption that the parents are hardworking, well-earning
couples who might feel that "Nanny" had a bit of class and suggested
top quality child care.

But that was just my idea.

Good luck.

Kid Minders is my suggestion.
Minder means a person whose business it is to look after a person or
thing. It is also a play on child minders.
