Given the location of Peawanuck, the only truly viable option for
broadband Internet access is using a two-way satellite service. It
just so happens that there is a reasonably cost-effective solution
available that can provide up to 2 Mbps downlink / 500 kbps uplink
connectivity (under typical clear-sky conditions). I have had good
past experiences using such a service in a remote location, and found
the performance to be almost as good as a DSL connection in a city.
There are also more expensive satellite solutions that provide higher
reliability.
In order for me to provide a satisfactory answer, though, I would ask
that you please clarify a couple of points:
- are you looking for a solution that can supply a single broadband
connection that can be shared among multiple homes within the
community? If so, can you describe the layout of the community
(building types, distances between buildings)
- are you looking for a service provider that can take care of
multiple customers within the community, or are you looking for a
service provider that can provide a wholesale solution to someone
within the community, who would then sell the use of the service to
the other members of the community?
