Question ID: 716610
How much does a recording artist normally make for a Gold record? How
about Platinum? For example, what would John Melloncamp make in
royalties every year for all of his hits?

I don't know about Mellencamp in particular, nor do I think we'll ever
find out, but according to a number of sources royalties from the
average major label deal generally equate to about 13% or 90% of the
Gross retail revenue.

Let me know if this explains it well enough:

Let me correct a significant typo. That should have read:

". . .generally equate to about 13% OF 90% of the Gross retail revenue."
